Greetings Inmates!
We want to make our community aware of a recently reported cybersecurity threat involving PHP, a programming language widely used by websites and online services. Some of you may not have even heard of the news and that okay but we wanted to address how this has affected us and yourselves as users of our services.
So what really happened?
Security researchers identified two critical vulnerabilities in PHP, a programming language powering a significant proportion of websites worldwide including our own website and server store. The vulnerabilities found could allow attackers to remotely execute malicious code on vulnerable servers without needing to log in. Attackers could potentially steal sensitive information, compromise websites or disrupt services. Rest assured this has not happened on our own servers.
So what was done about it?
Upon the information about the vulnerabilities being leaked ahead of their planned disclosure, prompted an emergency response from the PHP development team. Organisations worldwide began taking precautionary measures, including temporarily shutting down websites including the service host we use. Ourselves also decided to take emergency action and we immediately switched our server site offline. This is why you may not have been able to access the forums for a good portion of todays activities while @Requaza worked on resolving our security.
The Impact
Rest assured there has been no impact to the security or integrity of our servers, game modes or customer databases. All customer / player databases are held externally and are encrypted so everything is secure and safe. Some players may have experienced issues with purchases through out this time as our external pay holder PayNow uses PhP to handle our sales. Any players affected please create a ticket on our discord.
